JCPL to hold 'Second Supper and Stories' fundraiser

Johnson City Public Library is holding "(Second) Supper and Stories," a fundraiser to benefit the Johnson City Public Library Fund. The event is set for 6 p.m. on Sept. 25 at JCPL, located at 100 W. Millard St, according to a press release from the library. The event's theme — "(Second) Supper and Stories" — is inspired by the library's Shirefest and J.R.R. Tolkien's novel, "The Hobbit." Attendees will enjoy drinks and live music, followed by dinner and a storytelling performance. In the spirit of the evening, the Welsh storyteller Daniel Morden will spin timeless tales of thrilling Celtic adventures. Tickets for the event cost $125 and can be purchased at jcpl.org/second-supper. All of the money raised will go to the JCPL Fund at the East Tennessee Foundation. This endowment fund ensures the library's long-term organizational sustainability. "Support for the library's endowment is a way of saying, 'We want this library to be here and thriving for generations,'" Library Director Julia Turpin said. "It's about making sure the things folks love about the library today can continue, and that there's room for the library to grow and dream about what comes next." The JCPL Fund will help the library provide books, programs, technology and resources that the community relies on for years to come, according to the release. It is a funding source that ensures the library remains a welcoming and accessible place for all. "What excites me most about an endowment is the possibility it creates," Turpin said. "It gives future generations of library users access to resources and experiences we may not even be able to imagine yet." "When people invest in the library's endowment," she continued, "they're not just supporting an organization—they're helping make sure this community has a vibrant, welcoming library for a very long time."
