Dolly Parton to be theme of 2026 Johnson City Christmas parade

"Holly Dolly Christmas" will be the official theme of Johnson City's 2026 Christmas parade in honor of the late country singer, the Blue Plum Organization announced Wednesday. "Dolly Parton represents so much of what we love about this region — generosity, kindness, community, and a genuine love for people," said Jennifer Clements, parade committee chair for the Blue Plum Organization in a statement included in a press release.This year, the parade will begin at 10:30 a.m. Dec. 5, according to the release. Community members, businesses and organizations are encouraged to create floats and entries inspired by this year's theme. For example, entries might celebrate Parton's music, her Appalachian roots, the Imagination Library, her love of Christmas, or the many ways she has given back to the region. "Her music and Christmas spirit have brought joy to generations, and her incredible contributions to East Tennessee have made a lasting difference in the lives of so many," Clements said in the release. "We want to celebrate that legacy and bring a little 'Holly Dolly' magic to this year's Parade."Registration to be in the parade opens Thursday, Oct. 1, and closes Monday, Nov. 23, according to the release. That spirit of giving and community is exactly what we want this parade to celebrate."The parade begins on the campus of East Tennessee State University and will turn onto University Parkway and then onto West State of Franklin. It will take a left turn onto Buffalo Street and continue down East Main Street. The route will then turn onto Colonial Way and conclude in the Old Burley Lot at the corner of Legion Street and East State of Franklin.Registration to be in the parade opens Thursday, Oct. 1, and closes Monday, Nov. 23, according to the release.
