Daniel Boone boys win Cherokee Classic

KNOXVILLE — Daniel Boone won the prestigious Cherokee Classic cross country race in dominating fashion on Saturday. The Trailblazers with five runners in the top 15 romped to a 41-174 victory over runner-up Science Hill. Gavin Christian led Boone with a fourth-place finish (16:10) out of a field of 330 runners. Teammates Seth Marciante (16:17) and Adam Kelley (16:23) were sixth and seventh. Dylan Robinson (16:32) in 10th and Aiden Cannon (16:45) in 15th added to the total. Ethan Tate (16:57) in 20th and Joshua Estes (17:13) in 27th added to the strong effort. Trey Bailey from Greeneville won the individual race 15:54 by nearly seven seconds over runner-up Levi Detwiler from Cookeville. Lucas Mathewes (16:48) from University High finished 17th and less than three seconds out of the top 15. GIRLS RACE Christian Academy of Knoxville edged Science Hill 77-82 for the girls' title. Daniel Boone and David Crockett finished third and fourth, respectively. CAK's Emery Adams (19:21) and Sophia Lee (19:23) finished 1-2 individually with Science Hill's Cate Holden (19:24) third. Mahri Layne from Science Hill finished sixth at 19:44. Ryan Belt from Providence Academy followed up her runner-up finish from last week's Run for the Hills meet with a 10th place run at 20:04. Olly Arrington from Tennessee High ended 13th, and Daniel Boone freshman Mia Fox was 16th, less than a half-second out of a top-15 finish.
