ART Paint Allandale, a Plein Air event, will be held at Allandale Mansion, 4444 W. Stone Drive, Kingsport, on Sept. 21-23. Times are 8 a.m until dark on Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 21-22, and 8 a.m. to noon on Wednesday, Sept. 23. A demonstration and discussion by artist Peggy Root from the Root Studio in Jonesborough will be held on Thursday, Sept. 24, from 9 a.m. to noon at Allandale. An opening reception of work completed during the Allandale event will be held in the Main Gallery of the Renaissance Center Sept. 24 from 6:30-8 p.m. The artwork will be on exhibit through Oct. 2. The 2026 International FL3TCH3R Exhibit: Social & Politically Engaged Art will be on view through Sept. 27 at Fischman Gallery in downtown Johnson City. A public program featuring this year's juror, Jessica "J.B." Burke, will be held on Friday, Sept. 4, with a juror's talk beginning at 6:30 p.m., followed by an awards presentation at 7:30 p.m. and a public reception. Approximately $2,000 in awards will be presented. The exhibit is free and open to the public. Fischman Gallery is located at 133 N Commerce St., Johnson City. "Paws for a Cause" will be on exhibit through Sept. 26 at Impressions Gallery, 246 Broad St., Kingsport. The public is invited to an opening reception on Thursday, Sept. 3, from 5-8 p.m. at the gallery. This special exhibition of artwork created by members of the gallery will help raise funds for Petworks. Donations of cat food, dog food and towels will be collected through Sept. 3. And people who purchase any of the cat/dog themed artwork will be helping Petworks and local artists. Friends of Steele Creek Nature Center and Park is accepting digital submissions for the 20th annual Wildlife Weekend Photography Contest held each year in conjunction with Wildlife Weekend. Amateur photographers of all ages are invited to submit photos that capture the natural beauty of Steele Creek Park and its inhabitants. The submission deadline is Wednesday, Sept. 16. Create Appalachia will host "Enigmatic Encounters: The Veil Grows Thin," a juried fall exhibition celebrating mystery, imagination, folklore, and the unknown, through Oct. 30 at its gallery in downtown Kingsport. An opening reception will be held on Thursday, Sept. 3, from 6-8 p.m. The gallery is located at 225 W. Center St. Suite 115. Vicky Darnell is the latest exhibiting artist at The Circle Gallery in Kingsport. Darnell, a self-taught painter, uses her artistic talents to create images of cities, the outdoors and colorful flowers. The Circle Gallery is located on the first floor of Kingsport City Hall, 415 Broad St. Darnell's exhibit will be on display through Sept. 16. Kingsport's 15th Sculpture Walk has been installed and is ready for the public to enjoy. The Sculpture Walk is a program where the city leases sculptures from artists across the country to put on display within the city. This year, Kingsport Cultural Arts has brought five new sculptures to the city. The sculptures can be found along the Kingsport Greenbelt by the Holston River. AUDITIONS Tusculum University's Center for the Arts has scheduled auditions for the annual production of "Edgar Allen Poe and Other Haunted Stories in the Woods" and "The Taming of the Shrew." Auditions for "The Taming of the Shrew" will be held Sunday, Aug. 30, and Monday, Aug. 31, at 6 p.m. in Behan Arena Theatre. Anyone who wants to audition will have to perform 10 lines of a Shakespeare comedic monologue. Exchange Place Living History Farm, 4812 Orebank Road in Kingsport, will hold its 54th annual Fall Folk Arts Festival on Saturday, Sept. 26, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, Sept. 27, from noon to 5 p.m. This celebration of traditional arts and crafts and the harvest season will feature artisans demonstrating and selling a wide array of heritage folk arts, along with autumn plants and seasonal items. Visitors will see demonstrations of 19th century skills such as sorghum making, coopering, lye soap making, blacksmithing, spinning and weaving, and hearthside cooking. ICE CREAM SOCIAL Kingsport Parks and Recreation is celebrating our furry friends by hosting a special event Sunday — an Ice Cream Social at Kingsport's Dogwood Park. The Ice Cream Social will take place from 5-7 p.m. on Aug.30 at Kingsport's Dogwood Park, 800 Granby Road. There will be free pup cups for the dogs and ice cream for sale for the humans. The event is free and open for dogs of all shapes and sizes. PLANETARIUM Bays Mountain Park's latest planetarium show, "Dark Side of Light," is a fascinating exploration about the importance of preserving our night skies.
