Washington County Schools honors CTE students

Washington County Schools recognized dozens of Career and Technical Education students during honors banquets this month, celebrating students from Daniel Boone High School and David Crockett High School. Crockett students gathered Thursday evening at the Carnegie Hotel ballroom with family and friends for dinner before receiving awards recognizing achievements across multiple CTE pathways. Daniel Boone High School hosted its banquet similarly last week. "This year we had our teachers nominate students for recognition," Hauldren said. "We were looking for students who completed their whole program of study, earned industry credentials and were also involved in leadership activities at competitions or within clubs." According to CTE Supervisor Kelli Hauldren, students across Washington County Schools earned 386 workplace credits during the school year. She said 47 students are attending Tennessee College of Applied Technology Elizabethton, while 28 students earned college credit hours through dual enrollment programs. Washington County Schools offers a wide range of CTE pathways, including welding, machining, agriculture, construction, electrical, culinary arts, cosmetology, health science, automotive technology, information technology and architecture and engineering design. Hauldren said some of the district's newer programs include digital arts and design at Daniel Boone High School, teaching as a profession programs at both high schools and the HVAC program at Daniel Boone. Hauldren said CTE programs provide students with valuable hands-on experience while helping them explore potential careers before graduating from high school. "I think CTE is important because it gives kids hands-on, real-world experiences," Hauldren said. "It lets them see if a future career may be right for them while they're in high school instead of figuring that out afterward." She said many students also gain opportunities to work in career fields while still in school. "Hopefully they can make decisions about their future while they're still in high school and pursue that afterward," Hauldren said. David Crockett High School Students recognized in advanced manufacturing were Elijah Birchfield, Colby Brookshire, Landen Cox, Ethan Greear, Ethan Perry, Gavin Plasschaert, Levi Stephens and Skyler Vanover. Agriculture students honored were Addison Kyker and Sophee Malloy. Construction and electrical students recognized included Sam Barnett, Garrett Hartmann, Kylea Koester, Cole Reed, Jordan Scism and Connor Shaw. Cosmetology students honored were Marissa Collins, Molly Dacis, Jazmyne Dykes, Ally Marlor, Sara McCurry and Gennah Swiger. Digital arts and design students recognized included Elizabeth Amos, Tyler Boyd, Jeremiah Brown, Connor Carlson, Kayli Gates, Haley Hart, Maddox Landers, Tristan O'Neal, Alyssa Shelton, Camden Walters and Samuel White. Health science students honored were Kourtney Aloisio, Sidney Archer, Katie Byrd, Valeria Camacho Mayo, Kaylee Childress, Joseph Cox, Connie Diaz, Alexis Hawkins, Bintou Maiga, Cheyenne Ramsey, Jackson White and Autumn Wynn. Students recognized in teaching as a profession were Kaelyn Delph, Cayden Honeycutt and Mia Miller, while transportation students honored were Lincoln Matlock and Jacob White. Daniel Boone High School Agriculture students recognized included Katie Barnette, Mary Blair, Alex Cunningham, Gunner Kirk, Olivia Pierce, Lemiah Rosenbaum and Layla West. Information technology students honored were Dawson Daniel, Jacob Kramer and Silas McCray. Teaching as a profession students recognized included Sydney Alley and Lilly Fleenor. Health science students honored were Ariana Al Ameri, Cheyene Berry, Aiden Brown, Mallory Carpenter, Gracie Charles, Kaylan Coates, Reagan Crumly, Jordyn Fish, Sadie Honeycutt, Reece Hull, Raina Indukuri, Brooklyn James, Isaac Johnson, Kenlee Lowe, Micha Martin, Sydney Matherly, Chloe McClellan, Saylie Newton, Jacob Noblet, Vanessa Ramsey, Cayli Rimmer, Dawn Self, Landon Sheesley, Sophia Stout, Rebecca Taylor, Teah Thompson, Bailey Utsman, Brock Wilhjelm, Ella Wilson and Benjamin Zier.
