ROUNDUP: Crockett, Volunteer prevail twice at Tiny Day/Red Edmonds Classic

GREENEVILLE — Lily Mango and Elsie Gunter never would allow the opposition to get going against David Crockett's softball team Mango and Gunter both went two innings and combined for a three-hit shutout in Crockett's 12-0 triumph over Morristown East in the Tiny Day/Red Edmonds Classic. Madelyn Dulaney doubled twice and went 3-for-3 with four RBIs, while Lexi Hawkins doubled once and finished 3-for-3. Lacey Whitaker went 2-for-3 with a double, and Rebecca Holland tripled. Mango went the distance in the nightcap, striking out nine over four innings in a 4-0 victory over Grainger. Dulaney once again had two doubles, and Bella Blanton doubled once. Both finished 2-for-3 at the plate. Volunteer collects pair of wins Maddie Holder tossed a two-hit shutout in Volunteer's first game Friday, a 10-0 triumph over Chuckey-Doak. She struck out eight over five innings and helped her caused by hitting 2-for-3 with a three-run homer. Sydney New (1-for-2) and Raylie Gray both had two RBIs. New put on another solid outing to lead the Lady Falcons over West Ridge 7-1 in their nightcap. She hit 3-for-3 and drove in three runs. Emily Walker went 2-for-4, with Holder and Timber McLain driving in two runs each. Walker struck out one in her five-inning victory. Kami Clark singled and scored a run for West Ridge. Cloudland erases 7-run deficit Shaking off a 6-0 loss to Morristown West, Cloudland climbed out of a 7-0 hole by scoring nine runs in the top of the fourth. Eowyn McCoury went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs. Khloe Johnson (double) drove in two runs, and Willow Bennett had three RBIs with one single. Reagan Turbyfill struck out one to get the four-inning win. Paisley Brubeck (2 doubles, 3 RBIs) and Hailey Williamson (double) both hit 2-for-3 to lead South Greene. Tennessee High 8, Chuckey-Doak 2 Taylor Carmody (2-for-2), Addie Wilhoit and Kelsie Hughes all doubled and batted in two runs for the Lady Vikings. Carat Harris struck out three to get the five-inning win. Paylin Shelton and Jayden Myers both went 2-for-3 for Chuckey-Doak. Jefferson County 18, Sullivan East 4 Carsyn Cobbett went 3-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs as Jefferson County pushed across 14 runs in the third inning. Olivia Mottern struck out four in her three-inning win. Audrey Easley homered and went 2-for-2 with two RBIs for East, while Makynlee Johnson hit 2-for-2. LOCAL SOFTBALL Twin Springs 12, Thomas Walker 0 NICKELSVILLE — Kasey Robinson tossed a one-hit shutout, striking out 11 in five innings for the Lady Titans. She went 2-for-3 with a double to help her cause, while Bella Lawson hit a triple and a double with three RBIs. Unaka 15, West Greene 7 ELIZABETHTON — Mikena Blackwell hit 4-for-4 with two RBIs to lead Unaka, while Katlyn Dugger went 3-for-5 with a double and four RBIs. Kimberly Proffitt struck out seven over 4 1/3 innings for the win. Autumn Carter and Alexis Cutshall both had two hits for West Greene. Hampton 15, Happy Valley 11 ELIZABETHTON — Hadley Vines doubled twice and went 4-for-5 with two RBIs to lead Hampton's 22-hit output, as the Lady Bulldogs earned their first win. Mallory Lamb (2 doubles, 3 RBIs), Lillian Andrews (double) and Lauren Smith all had three hits with Hannah Smith (double), Emma Birchfield, Nalei Deloach (double) and Brylee Russell (double) each recording two hits. Lauren Smith pitched five innings with three strikeouts for the win. Trinity Bowers went 2-for-3 and Addison Moore tripled with three RBIs for Happy Valley. BASEBALL Science Hill 10, Knox Halls 1 JOHNSON CITY — Nate Stoots doubled twice for the Hilltoppers, who jumped ahead 7-0 after the second inning in the Tribe Classic. Owen Lewis hit 3-for-4 from the eight-hole. Darren Hill (double, 2 RBIs) and Max Brian both went 2-for-4. Cole ReSue struck out five over five innings for the win, and Maddox Francis fanned five the rest of the way. Sullivan East 4, West Ridge 3 BLUFF CITY — With two out in the seventh, Luke Blevins ripped an RBI double to center to give East the walk-off win over its county rival. Blevins and Austin Warren both collected two hits and Nathan Hodge doubled, Blevins pitching 2 2/3 innings to get the win in relief. Parker Senn (double), Cam Smith and Isaac McGee all went 2-for-3 to lead the Wolves. Unicoi County 11, Volunteer 0 CHURCH HILL — Asher Wainwright tossed a two-hit shutout, striking out three over five innings of work. Isaac Harris doubled twice and went 3-for-4 with four RBIs. Kolby Jones (double), Hudson Berry and Daven Thompson had two hits each. Cade Smith went 2-for-3 for Volunteer. Daniel Boone 12, West Greene 1 MOSHEIM — Quinlan Held (double) and Tanner Orth both collected three hits and five RBIs for Boone in the Greene Fling. Cole Duncan doubled twice, and Braden Gore went 2-for-4 with a double. Duncan struck out 10 over six innings for the three-hit win. Aiden Willett singled and scored a run for the Buffs. Hampton 8, W. Washington (Ind.) 7 BAILEYTON — Elisha Henson went 2-for-2 with a double and three RBIs for the Bulldogs at the Greene Fling. Brock Shelby hit 2-for-4, and Brayden Otey doubled. Otey also got the win, striking out two over 5 2/3 innings of relief. Twin Springs 14, Thomas Walker 0 NICKELSVILLE — Isaiah Kiser tossed a five-inning no-hitter for the Titans, striking out nine with only two errors separating him from a perfect game. Xavier Sawyer went 4-for-4 with five RBIs to lead the offense. Brennon Weddle and M Culbertson both went 2-for-3. Johnson County 15, Bethel Christian (N.C.) 0 MOUNTAIN CITY — Carson Jennings hit a three-run blast to ignite the Longhorns. Avery Jones doubled twice and went 3-for-3, while Kaden Blevins doubled and went 2-for-2. Jennings and Jones both struck out two in the win. BOYS SOCCER Providence Academy 3, The King's Academy 2 JOHNSON CITY — A different player scored each goal as PA collected its third district win. Cage Merkel, Carter Larson and Marcus Poff each found the back of the net once, with Merkel and Creed Hogan each dishing out an assist. Austin Beckner made 10 saves to collect another victory.
