Fresh Cuts, Big Thanks: Local barbers support Boones Creek educators

TaylorMade Barbers give back to Boones Creek Elementary School faculty during testing season. At Boones Creek Elementary School, supporting teachers and celebrating students is more than a goal, it's a daily commitment. That spirit was on full display recently when TaylorMade Barbershop partnered with the school to provide complimentary haircuts for more than 10 male faculty and staff members as a gesture of appreciation during the busy TCAP preparation season, according to a press release from Washington County Schools. Led by master barber Jacques Gillespie-Taylor, along with barbers Nate Smith and Doug Williams, the team generously volunteered their time and talents to serve the educators who invest so much in the success of Boones Creek students each day. The event created an atmosphere of encouragement and gratitude across campus at a time when teachers are working especially hard to prepare students for end-of-year assessments, according to the release. The barbers came in and set up right after dismissal, and staff members visited them during their planning time. Finding time for yourself can be hard as an educator, with daily responsibilities and after-school extracurricular activities that keep most busy until after hours. One staff member said, "This meant so much to us that our administrators set this up. It was nice to have a few minutes to do this, but also take one thing off my to-do list that I seem to never get done. Even my students noticed when I walked in that I had a new haircut, so that was pretty cool." Assistant Principal Andy McCall expressed appreciation for the partnership and what it meant to the staff. "We were so appreciative to have them partner with us and take care of our staff. Our teachers work so hard for our students, we wanted them to not only look good while doing it, but know that we see all their hard work." For Jacques Gillespie-Taylor and the TaylorMade Barbers team, the visit reflected their ongoing commitment to supporting the local community. "TaylorMade Barbers, myself included, are always looking for ways to give back to our community and region," he said. "This was a perfect chance to give back to a group that means so much to Boones Creek." The haircut event is just one example of how Boones Creek Elementary works intentionally to recognize the people who make the school such a special place, according to the release. Throughout the year, staff members are celebrated through monthly recognitions, culture-building events and encouragement from the school's outstanding PTO, which consistently finds creative ways to support both students and teachers. That culture of celebration extends to students as well. Last month, grades 3–8 participated in an exciting schoolwide March Madness competition that combined attendance challenges, trivia, games and academic engagement activities. The friendly competition energized classrooms across the building and helped reinforce the importance of teamwork and consistency. In the end, Mrs. Barnett's 3rd-grade homeroom claimed the championship title, earning bragging rights and schoolwide recognition for their effort and enthusiasm, according to the release. Events like these reflect the strong sense of connection shared among students, families, staff and community partners at Boones Creek Elementary. Whether it's a surprise act of kindness from local professionals or a spirited competition that brings classrooms together, the school continues to find meaningful ways to celebrate success and support one another, according to the release.
