Milligan University Orchestra to present 'At the Threshold' concert

Whether it is the first breath of life or the final notes of a requiem, the Milligan University Orchestra's final performance of the season aims to capture the "transitional spaces" of the human experience. The Milligan University Orchestra, under the direction of Milligan's Area Chair of Music Dr. Kellie Brown, will present the concert "At the Threshold" on Saturday, April 18, at 7:30 p.m. in the Mary B. Martin Auditorium in Seeger Chapel, according to a press release from the school. The concert will celebrate how composers have depicted the many types of thresholds in our lives: whether birth or death, comings or goings or real or ethereal places. This concert will feature a broad range of pieces including film music from "Coco" and from the Broadway musical "Fiddler on the Roof." Other works include "Fantasy on Bach's Sleepers Wake," Chris Pilsner's "Interstellar Dreams" and Richard Meyer's "The Gates of Janus." "After an academic year filled with so many successful performances for the Milligan Orchestra, it feels wonderful and appropriate to conclude with a concert in which all of the music speaks of transitions and of the many ways that composers have depicted transitional times and spaces," Brown said in the release. For the finale, the orchestra will be joined by a joint choir for a performance of John Rutter's beloved "Requiem." The choir will be composed of the Milligan Concert Choir, under the direction of Dr. Noah DeLong; the David Crockett High School Choir, under the direction of Kelly Davenport; and the Elizabethton High School Choir, under the direction of Ben Davenport.
