ROUNDUP: Boone rallies from six-run deficit to defeat Elizabethton

GRAY — An early six-run hole didn't faze the Daniel Boone Trailblazers on Monday evening. The 'Blazers came back from down 6-0 to earn a 10-8 victory over Elizabethton. Betsy struck first in the second inning, taking advantage of a Boone error to score a pair of runs. Bo Armstrong added two more in the third on a base hit and Rhett Slagle hit a two-run homer in the fourth to take a 6-0 lead. In the bottom half of the frame, the Trailblazers rallied in a big way. They posted a six-spot with the biggest blow being a grand slam off the bat of Cole Duncan. Daniel Boone then took the lead in the sixth inning with a four-spot. T.J. Leonard hit a run-scoring single to take the lead, then Tanner Orth doubled home a pair and a Betsy error plated one more. Elizabethton got back within two in the seventh with two outs courtesy of a base hit by J.D. Hooks. However, the tying run was left on base. Jack Ridley had a two-hit game along with Leonard and Orth for the Trailblazers. Justin Whitehead, Marshal Holtsclaw, Hooks, and Armstrong had multi-hit days for the Cyclones. Dobyns-Bennett 7, Morristown East 0 KINGSPORT — Kaden Cutlip tripled as part of a two-hit game and also tossed six shutout innings for the Indians. On the mound, he only allowed two hits and a walk while striking out seven. Taylor Blankenship went 2-for-3 with two RBI and a run scored and Tate Wernke drove in a pair of runs. Landry Winstead and Bryson Walker had hits for the Hurricanes. Science Hill 11, West Ridge 1 JOHNSON CITY — Darren Hill accounted for four RBI for the Hilltoppers on two hits, including a triple. Hill, Nate Stoots and Carter McKinney all had multi-hit days. Hagen Gibson tossed a complete game and didn't allow an earned run, striking out eight. Isaac McGee tripled and scored the Wolves' lone run. Tennessee High 17, Sullivan East 7 BLUFF CITY — Dayne Musick went 4-for-5 with two runs scored and four RBI for the Vikings. Hudson Pender hit a homer and Knox Keesee struck out 10 on the mound. Luke Blevins accounted for the Patriots' lone hit. Belfry (Ky.) 3, David Crockett 0 JONESBOROUGH — Michael Hagy went 3-for-4 with an RBI for Belfry. Dante Davis pitched a two-hit shutout, walking five and striking out four. A.J. Ford (single) and Gabe Story (triple) had the two hits for the Pioneers. Cherokee 4, Clinton 3 CLINTON — Porter Owen earned a winning decision for the Chiefs after five innings pitched, allowing just one earned run and four hits while striking out seven. Cole Putnal had the lone RBI hit for Cherokee, as both he and Eli Boyd accounted for the two hits for the visitors. Jake Rittenberry had two hits for the Dragons. Unicoi County 6, Johnson County 2 MOUNTAIN CITY — The Blue Devils struck for five runs in the top of the fourth inning to take a lead they would never relinquish. Daven Thompson and Kolby Jones each had three hits at the plate and Angel Delgado chipped in a two-hit game. Isaac Harris went the distance on the mound, striking out 11 batters. Kaden Blevins went 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored out of the leadoff spot for the Longhorns. Grace Christian-Knoxville 4, Providence Academy 2 (Game 1) JOHNSON CITY — Ben Hamilton's two-run single in the fifth inning propelled the Rams to a win to open Monday's doubleheader. Kannon Derry and Easton Housewright both homered for GCA. Cam Blanton, Finn Moss, and Port Cogner all had hits for the Knights in defeat. Grace Christian-Knoxville 6, Providence Academy 4 (Game 2) JOHNSON CITY — Parker Blankenship went 2-for-2 with two runs scored out of the nine-spot in the order for the Rams. Nash Martinez hit a bases-loaded double in the fifth inning to drive in three RBI. Happy Valley 17, South Greene 7 ELIZABETHTON — Lane Parker went a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate with a run scored and an RBI for the Warriors. Mason Belt also had three hits, and both Greg Visser and Fermin Carrillo-Estrada had two hits. Maddux Brown went 2-for-2 with two runs scored for the Rebels. University High 24, Cloudland 0 ROAN MOUNTAIN — Anthony Margotta and Jacob Williams both homered for the Bucs in a monster day at the plate for the Bucs. Grant Gentry, Hugh Landry, and Williams all had multi-hit games in just a two-inning affair. Walker Gouge had the Highlanders' lone hit. Unaka 7, Tri-Cities Christian 3 ELIZABETHTON — Brandon Buckles and Brycen Eggers both went 2-for-3 with a run scored for the Rangers, Buckles from the leadoff spot and Eggers from the eight-hole. Laken Barnett picked up the win after five innings of seven-strikeout ball on the mound. Oak Murray and Joshua Johnson both had two-hit days for the Eagles. North Greene 3, Hampton 2 BAILEYTON — Owen Pierce hit a two-run double in the bottom of the seventh for a Huskies walk-off winner. Aiden Halley tossed a complete-game for North Greene, allowing just one earned run. Brock Shelby went 2-for-3 with a run scored for the Bulldogs. SOFTBALL Dobyns-Bennett 17, Morristown East 1 MORRISTOWN — Riley McMillan and B Ferrell each had four hits in a banner day for the Lady Indians offense. McMillan and Allie McConnelee both homered for D-B, who had 19 hits, four for extra bases. Jaycee Hamilton went 2-for-2 for the Lady Hurricanes. West Ridge 6, Jefferson County 3 DANDRIDGE — Lacey Fugate homered and drove in three RBI for the Lady Wolves. Teagan Tipton went 3-for-4 and Miranda Henley struck out 11 in a complete game effort. Zoey Horton tripled as part of a two-hit night for the Lady Patriots. Elizabethton 11, Unaka 1 ELIZABETHTON — Piper Bennett went 3-for-3 and Lacey Gobble, Sadie Williams, and Gracie Shepard all drove in multiple RBI for the Lady Cyclones. Gobble also didn't issue a walk in five innings of work, allowing just four hits while striking out nine. Kelsey Pasquale doubled to highlight the day for the Lady Rangers. Cherokee 6, West Greene 0 MOSHEIM — Shelby Helton tossed a shutout and struck out nine to lead the Lady Chiefs to victory. Lilly Musslewhite doubled as part of a 3-for-3 night at the plate while Anna Boyd scored a pair of runs. Addison Peters and Amanda Owens both singled for the Lady Buffaloes. Volunteer 13, Chuckey-Doak 1 CHURCH HILL — Five different Lady Falcons had multi-hit games in an offensive onslaught. Sydney New had the biggest night of them all, homering twice and driving in seven RBI. Hayleigh Seidl recorded both hits for the Lady Knights. Grace Christian-Knoxville 19, Providence Academy 4 JOHNSON CITY — Malea Breeden hit an inside-the-park grand slam to lead the Lady Rams. Along with Breeden, five different GCA hitters had multiple hits, with her, Ava Malone, and Rachel Cox each recording three hits. Emma Caldwell tripled, drove in a run and scored a run for the Lady Knights. Rye Cove 13, University High 4 CLINCHPORT — Hannah Leedy homered and doubled as part of a three-hit, six-RBI game for the Lady Eagles. She also pitched six innings and struck out 15 in the circle. Beth Beaver also had a three-hit night. Emma Linkous recorded two hits and two RBI for the Lady Bucs. Cloudland 6, Freeport (Pa.) 5 MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — Jayla Harper scored on a ball that got past the catcher in the ninth inning to give the Lady Highlanders a walk-off win. Willow Bennett scored twice and drove in three runs as part of a 4-for-4 day at the plate. Reagan Turbyfill only allowed one earned run in a nine-inning pitching effort. She struck out 13 batters. Portsmouth (Ohio) 23, Hampton 1 MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — The Lady Bulldogs found themselves behind the 8-ball after allowing 12 runs before their first at-bat. Lauren Smith and Lillian Andrews accounted for both Hampton hits while Jocelyn Johnson scored their lone run. BOYS SOCCER Gate City 2, Chuckey-Doak 1 GATE CITY — Max Taylor scored on a free kick and assisted on a Walker Hillman goal for the Blue Devils. Bryson Smith made seven saves to keep a clean sheet in net, including a penalty kick. GIRLS SOCCER Gate City 2, Marion 0 MARION — Olivia Smith and Aubrey Smith each found the back of the net for the Lady Blue Devils. Aubrey Smith also had an assist, as did Caroline Baker. Avery Elam, Addison Weatherly, and Neveah Neeley all spent time in net for a combined shutout.
