Johnson City man arrested after hole-in-wall burglary

Washington County deputies arrested a Johnson City man after officials say he cut through a wall to burglarize a neighboring home. Deputies arrested Shawn Wayne Scott, 50, and charged him with aggravated burglary, theft and introduction of contraband into a penal institution, according to a police report from the Washington County Sheriff's Office. Deputies said they arrested Scott shortly before midnight on Feb. 3 outside an apartment on Minga Drive, noting he was wanted for cutting a hole in a closet wall to access the apartment next to his, removing items from that apartment. Deputies said they initially responded to a burglary in process on Jan. 28. The daughter of the former resident of the apartment, who had recently passed away, told deputies she observed someone in the apartment through security cameras. Upon arrival, deputies said they were unable to access the apartment due to the door being barricaded. Once access was gained, deputies said they observed multiple items disturbed and scattered throughout the residence. Deputies said they also discovered a hole in the wall that led to the apartment next door, noting they found items belonging to the former resident inside the apartment. Deputies said they found Scott sleeping in a vehicle in front of the residence on Feb. 3. While booking Scott into the Washington County Detention Center, deputies said they found a clear baggie containing a crystal-like substance weighing .57 grams. Scott was then charged with introduction of contraband into a penal facility, according to officials. Scott was transported to the Washington County Detention Center, where he is being held on a $30,000 bond. He will appear in court on Feb. 4.
