Robot Drone League Jr. brings hands-on STEM to Jonesborough

A youth robotics and drone competition will bring hands-on STEM learning to Jonesborough at Sulphur Springs Elementary School. STREAMWORKS Education and Robot Drone League Jr. will host a robotics competition Feb. 21, at Sulphur Springs Elementary School, following a weather-related rescheduling. The free, family-friendly event will run from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. and is open to the public, according to a press release from organizers. The event will take place at Sulphur Springs Elementary School, located at 1518 Gray Station Road. Robot Drone League Jr. is a youth-focused competition designed to give students real-world experience through robotics and drone-inspired challenges, according to STREAMWORKS Education. Students will work in teams to complete mission-based challenges focused on STEM skills like engineering, coding, teamwork and problem-solving. "This is more than a competition; it is an opportunity for students to experience engineering in action," said Dennis Courtney, CEO of STREAMWORKS Education. "We are proud to bring a safe, engaging and memorable STEM event to Jonesborough and invite the community to come out and support these incredible young innovators." Organizers said the event aims to give families, educators and community members a chance to see STEM education in action through interactive competition and collaboration. STREAMWORKS officials said safety remains a priority, noting the event was moved due to weather concerns. Any future changes would be announced at least 24 hours in advance. Volunteers are still needed to assist with event operations, team guidance, scoring and general support. Those interested in volunteering can contact Cindy Nickodam at cindy@streamworkseducation.org. STREAMWORKS Education is a nonprofit organization focused on strengthening STEM education and workforce development through hands-on programs such as Robot Drone League and Robot Drone League Jr., according to the release.
