The National Recycling Coalition awarded Domtar's Kingsport Mill an award for the mill's conversion to a recycled manufacturing facility. The NRC is an advocacy group that represents North American organizations in the recycling industry. Domtar was granted the award for corporate leadership at the group's conference Oct. 2. The Kingsport Chamber of Commerce nominated the mill for the award."Domtar has been an incredible corporate partner to our city and region, and this national recognition reinforces what we already know here in Kingsport — that this company is helping lead the way in sustainability and innovation," Miles Burdine, the chamber's CEO, said in a press release."The mill's transformation is not only a remarkable industrial achievement but also a powerful example of how business growth and environmental responsibility can work hand in hand to strengthen our community."The mill was recognized for converting into a 100% recycled containerboard facility and circularity it pursued in that process. That included repurposing demolished concrete and brick, transitioning to lithium-ion-powered vehicles and a partnership with Food City to recycle boxes from about 150 of its stores. It's the largest recycled manufacturer in the state and houses the second-largest recycled containerboard machine in North America."This recognition from the National Recycling Coalition is a tremendous honor and a testament to our employees' dedication to sustainability," Tony Clary, the mill's interim manager, said in a press release."Through innovation and hard work, our team has redefined what's possible in circular manufacturing — not just for Domtar, but for our entire industry."
