Six Rivers Media publishes group's list of 'inappropriate' books

NASHVILLE — A group of local activists flagged 170 books between the Johnson City and Kingsport Public Libraries for themes they considered inappropriate. Now, Six Rivers Media is making that list public. Much of the list includes books containing sexually-explicit content, LGBTQ and transgender-centered themes. 141 books of concern were found in the Johnson City Public Library and 72 in the Kingsport Public Library. Last month, state Sen. Rusty Crowe contacted the Johnson City Public library expressing concern over the books identified in the list. Crowe referenced Tennessee Secretary of State Tre Hargett's order, which gave public libraries across the state 60 days to audit their children's sections for "age-appropriateness." As a guideline, Hargett referenced an executive order issued in January which prevents federal funds from being used to "promote gender ideology." The section referenced in the order is only a couple sentences long, leading to some confusion among local libraries on how to comply with it.
