Monster trucks and crowd roar at Appalachian Fair

Monster trucks and the crowd watching them filled the air with noise at the Appalachian Fair on Wednesday night. The Black Stallion, Higher Education, Overkill Evolution, Tremor II and War Wizard monster trucks took part in the Appalachian Fair's Monster Trucks Unleashed event. The stands went wild as each truck took turns performing various tricks and competing between one another for the crowd's loudest applause.Overkill Evolution received the most reaction from the crowd when the announcer asked for their input on who won a two-wheel stand competition. When asking the crowd about some of the other trucks, the stands were largely silent."I've always wanted to be a monster truck driver," 8-year-old attendee Austin Little said confidently as he watched the trucks perform."I think they can go upside down, but I've never seen one go upside--" Little said before screaming "AHHH!" when two trucks began racing each other side by side, each one going airborne using the ramps in the arena.Calming back down, Little said that his favorite truck was War Wizard, although he thought that Overkill Evolution had performed the best that night."I'm surprised he's saying all of this," his father Adam Little said. "I've never heard him mention monster trucks to me in his life."When Adam asked Austin if he would like to be quoted in the newspaper, Austin asked, "What's a newspaper?"As the night went on, the announcer gave several prizes away to people in the audience by asking trivia questions related to the monster trucks, and even Taylor Swift. The trucks continued to perform various tricks as well. At times, the trucks did circles in the arena, stirring up so much dirt that the trucks became nearly impossible to see due to a thick haze.Monster Trucks Unleashed will take place again on Thursday, Aug. 22 at 7 p.m. There are also monster truck rides available prior to the show for a cost of $15.Those interested can visit appalachianfair.com for more information.
