Pauline Callahan Hughes, 78, Johnson City, passed away Tuesday, July 16, 2013, surrounded by family.
A native of Washington County, Mrs. Hughes was born on November 15, 1934, to the late Chester and Sula Callahan.
Mrs. Hughes had attended Boones Creek Christian Church.
She was a loving wife and was known as a mom and mamaw to everyone and found good in all people. She enjoyed country and Southern gospel music.
Mrs. Hughes worked in the Deli at Jim’s Market; she was also a seamstress and an Avon Representative.
She loved her kids, sewing, gardening, doll collecting and most of all her family.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Hughes Sr.; a brother, Donald Callahan; and a grandson, Junior White.
Those left to cherish her memory include seven sons, Jerry Hughes and Latonia, Limestone, Billy Hughes and wife, Kathy, Jonesborough, David Hughes and wife, Pam, Dandridge, Jackie Hughes Jr., Johnson City, Wayne Hughes and wife, Betty, Jonesborough, James Hughes and wife, Sherrie, Johnson City, Keith Hughes and wife, Sandy, Jonesborough; one daughter, Debbie Tate and husband, Carson, Jonesborough; 26 grandchildren; 37 great grandchildren; three brothers, William Callahan, Greene County, Virgil Callahan, Georgia and Roger Callahan, Louisiana; and one sister Carolyn Beaver, Gray.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Tetrick Funeral & Cremation Services, Johnson City, on Thursday, July 18, 2013, at 8:00 PM.
The family will receive friends in the Sunrise Chapel of the Funeral Home from 6:00 PM until the service hour and at other times at the home of her son, Keith and wife, Sandy Hughes, at 126 Deakins Estate, Jonesborough.
Pastor Ancel Presnell will officiate.
A Committal Service will be held on Friday, July 19, 2013, at 11:00 AM at Washington County Memory Gardens, Johnson City. Family and Friends are asked to meet at Tetrick Funeral & Cremation Services at 10:30 AM to follow in procession. Pallbearers will be Ben Hughes, Ryan Hughes, Chester Hughes, Dustin Hughes, Chuck White and Wesley Tate. Honorary Pallbearers will be Michael Tate, Jacob Hughes, Tony Smith, Jeremy Scalf, Chris Carver, Tom Wagner, Jessie Tucker and David Tipton.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Jim Aderhold PAC, the staff of Blue Ridge Family Medicine, lifelong special friend of 66 years, Elda Cody Cox, and special daughters, Sandy Hughes, Betty Hughes and Pam Hughes.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Alzheimer’s Association, 207 N Boone Street, Johnson City, TN 37604.
