KINGSPORT — Kingsport police have shot an armed and wanted man after a lengthy Tuesday morning standoff at a city residence, with witnesses saying the suspect refused to come off a roof for negotiating officers.
The man, identified by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation as Jeffrey Chase Caldwell, 25, allegedly made several statements about hurting himself and officers — then made "threatening gestures" with the unspecified weapon.
That solicited gunfire from police, shooting Caldwell once in the abdomen. He's currently receiving treatment for the wounds at Holston Valley Medical Center and scheduled to undergo surgery.
