A Johnson City man was arrested Thursday after he allegedly choked a woman during an argument that started over the cleanliness of a residence, according to a police news release.
Michael G. Nickels, 30, 851 Dyer St., was charged after he and Amber L. Ward, 24, reportedly got into an argument where he grabbed her by the neck, choked her, broke her necklace and threw her around the apartment, police said.
Ward told police the argument started after she yelled at Nickels for messing up the apartment she had cleaned the night before.
When police arrived, visible choke marks could be seen on Ward’s throat and Nickels was taken into custody.
While searching Nickels, police found a bag of a green leafy substance in his right pocket, as well as a metal pipe with burn residue.
Nickels was charged with aggravated assault, simple possession/casual exchange and unlawful drug paraphernalia.
He was taken to the Washington County Detention Center, where he was being held on $52,000 bond.
Nickels was scheduled to appear in Sessions Court on Monday at 1:30 p.m.
