MARYVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — The father of a U.S. Marine veteran, who was shot and killed by police in Maryville, said his son had battle flashbacks brought on by post-traumatic stress disorder.
Officers who responded to calls about a man shooting a gun killed Theodore "T.J." Jones IV early Thursday after Jones shot at officers and a civilian and refused to put down his weapon.
The Daily Times (http://bit.ly/ZEMzos ) reported Jones' father Theodore Jones III, posted a message on his Facebook page that said his son had a flashback Wednesday night and stated, "He has lost the battle with PTSD."
The younger man's sister, Stephanie Kirk of Maryville, issued a short public statement on behalf of her family, acknowledging that her brother was the man fatally shot and requesting privacy.
