ELIZABETHTON –– A 16-year-old Happy Valley High School student died after he and another juvenile were stabbed during an altercation early Sunday morning.
According to Carter County Sheriff Chris Mathes, a 911 call came in around 3:02 a.m. regarding an altercation involving juveniles at 212 Cash Hollow Road.
Mathes said two juveniles were stabbed in the chest and abdomen areas and were taken to an area hospital where one remains in critical condition.
The other juvenile, Elijah Mckinney, died from his injuries.
Mathes said a manhunt was conducted for two other juveniles allegedly involved in the stabbing and that they were taken into custody around 8 a.m. Sunday morning.
“They were taken in custody at an apartment complex off Milligan Highway,” Mathes said. “One is currently being charged with second-degree murder and aggravated assault and the second juvenile is charged with tampering with evidence.”
The names of the juvenile suspects and the other juvenile stabbing victim were not released.
Mathes said the juvenile suspects are being held at the Regional Juvenile Detention Center in Johnson City and said the investigation is ongoing.
