Minimum wage

Published February 20, 2013

Raising the minimum wage may sound like a good thing until you look at who pays for it and its effect on the economy.

Just as everything else that the current regime, I mean administration comes up with, it is no more than a political play to gain support for the next House and Senate elections.

Who pays? The average working men and women as usual will pay as well as those who currently work at minimum wage jobs. Minimum wage jobs will disappear as small businesses will have to either cut costs by workforce reduction or raise the price of their products. I said small business because most large businesses already pay more than the minimum wage.

What is really a shame is that people must work at a minimum wage job or two to support a family simply because of the absence of decent paying jobs that have been moved overseas. Not too many years ago minimum wage jobs were jobs that high school kids and college students worked until graduation. Now it applies to folks trying to raise families.

Politicians are going to take care of themselves and the ones who pad their pocket and keep them in office. This applies to both parties and everyone that sits in an elected seat in Washington, D.C.
