KINGSPORT — Injuries sustained in a Friday night traffic crash have killed a Kingsport couple, with police saying they likely would have survived had they been wearing their seat belts.

At approximately 10 p.m. Friday night Lindsay Beth Trent, 32, was driving a 1998 Honda Accord southbound on Lynn Garden Drive. Kingsport Police Department Patrolman and Accident Reconstructionist Dustin Jackson says Trent left the right side of the roadway in the 1500 block and struck an AEP power pole, with there being no evidence at the scene that she ever attempted to brake her vehicle.

Both Lindsay Trent and her passenger, husband Mark Anthony Trent, 36, were transported to Holston Valley Medical Center. Officer Jackson said Lindsay died at 1:45 Saturday morning while Mark died shortly before noon.

Seat belts save lives. I don't understand why people refuse to wear them. This tragedy may have been prevented. So sad when life is lost at such a young age.
