Update: One man dead, another injured when train hits vehicle in Greeneville

GREENEVILLE — A Greeneville man was killed and another man was injured when a train hit their vehicle Thursday.

According to information from the Tennessee Highway Patrol, Brock E. Humpherys, 41, Greeneville, was killed in a crash at 1100 W. Irish St. that involved a Norfolk Southern Railway train.

The report said Humpherys and his passenger, Anthony E. Southerland, 48, Mosheim, were traveling south on West Irish Street and did not stop for the flashing red lights at the railroad crossing. Their vehicle was hit by the oncoming train in the driver’s side door and both men were ejected from the vehicle.

Southerland was injured and taken by helicopter to Johnson City Medical Center, according to THP. According to the report, both men tested positive for alcohol and drugs, and neither were wearing their seat belts.
