A Gray man was arrested by Johnson City police Wednesday morning after he allegedly attempted to take a vacuum cleaner from Target, 2116 N. Roan St., without paying for the machine, police said.

According to a police news release, Steven F. Thompson, 47, 382 Kitzmiller Road, was apprehended by Target loss prevention personnel after he tried to leave the store without paying for a Dyson vacuum cleaner, which was valued at $399.

The release said an investigation revealed Thompson had stolen two other Dyson vacuums, valued at $728, on Sunday.

Thompson was charged with theft of property under $500 and theft of property over $500. He was taken to the Washington County Detention Center, where he was being held on $6,000 bond.
