A Jonesborough man was arrested Monday for allegedly trying to obtain drugs illegally from a local grocery store pharmacy, according to a police press release.

According to the release, police responded to Kroger, 1805 W. State of Franklin Road, after a pharmacist reported that Benjamin C. McCurry, 25, 106 Heritage Court, was trying to obtain narcotics by fraud.

The pharmacist told police someone called into the pharmacy pretending to be a Florida physician and calling in a prescription for Ambien, Tramadol and Lortab in McCurry’s name.

The pharmacy called the issuing physician and confirmed the drugs had not been prescribed, police said.

McCurry was taken into custody and drug paraphernalia was found on his person.

He was charged with one count of obtaining drugs falsely, one count of identity theft and one count of possessing drug paraphernalia.

McCurry was taken to the Washington County Detention Center and was held on $21,000 bond.

He was scheduled to appear in Sessions Court Tuesday at 9 a.m.
