Police say woman struck, injured girl

KINGSPORT — A Kingsport woman was arrested Saturday morning after allegedly striking her 6-year-old daughter and causing a puncture wound outside her mouth and more injuries inside her mouth.

According to a release from the Kingsport Police Department, Eva K. Ledford, 28, 1037 Bloomingdale Pike, was charged with aggravated assault.

Police said Ledford’s daughter was taken to Holston Valley Medical Center’s emergency room, where she received stitches to close the wound.

According to the release, the girl and another 8-month-old child were removed from Ledford’s care. Police said there was evidence of an ongoing problem in the home.

Ledford was being held without bond until she can be evaluated and custody determined, the release said. She was will be arraigned on Monday at 9 a.m.
