A Jonesborough man was arrested Saturday for burglarizing the vending machines at a local business, a police release said.

According to the release, officers received information that someone had entered the Dawn of Hope, 2216 Eddie Williams Road, while using an older alarm code and key on several occasions for a few weeks.

Inside the building, the suspect would take money from each vending machine, police said.

Officers saw Ronnie Malone, 50, 717 Mill Springs Road, attempt to enter the Dawn of Hope while it was closed.

According to the report, Malone’s alarm code did not work, the alarm sounded and he tried to leave the business by vehicle, but was stopped by police and arrested.

Business and vending machine keys were found on his person. Police reported he was a former employee of Dawn of Hope.

He was charged with seven counts of burglary and seven counts of theft of property under $500.

Malone was taken to the Washington County Detention Center and was being held on $77,000 bond pending a court date in Sessions Court.
