Washington County sheriff’s officers responded to a home on Hartmantown Road in the Sulphur Springs community Wednesday after the residents found an explosive device while cleaning up part of their property.

Lt. Doug Gregg said the approximately one-pound stick of dynamite was inside a metal pipe.

The residents called 911 after they realized something was inside the pipe.

Two members of the Johnson City Police bomb squad, Investigators Joe Harrah and Chris Stine, responded to the scene and destroyed the ordnance by burning it.

Gregg said there was no blasting cap with the material.
