General Shale wins architecture awards

Published July 30, 2012

General Shale, the North American subsidiary of Wienerberger AG, was recently recognized by the Brick Industry Association as a multiple winner of 2012 Brick in Architecture awards.

General Shale won three awards — two silver and one gold award — in the residential/single family category and an additional award in paving/landscaping architecture.

Each year since 1989, the Brick Industry Association has recognized outstanding designs that combine genuine clay brick with aesthetics and sustainability. As the only national association to represent both manufacturers and distributors, BIA is the authority in the clay brick industry. As such, the Brick in Architecture award program has become the nation’s premier architectural award featuring clay brick.

A jury of architects from around the country independently reviews and scores project entries from throughout North America, reinforcing the national status of the award. Entries represent both residential and non-residential architecture in which brick is the dominant building material. Approximately 165 entries this year came from 28 states and included commercial, educational, health care, houses of worship, municipal government, paving/landscape architecture, mutli-family and single-family residential projects.

Winners will be featured in the November 2012 issue of Brick in Architecture, an insert in Architect Magazine. In addition, all winners are showcased on BIA’s website at www.gobrick.com.
